•1933: In this Depression-era year, the chocolate chip cookie came about when Ruth Wakefield, who owned the Toll House Inn, was making a batch of sugar cookies. Chocolate chunks were broken up and incorporated into the dough. She thought they would melt in but they didn't. A new cookie, possibly the world's most famous and beloved cookie, was born.
